Service is the rent we pay for living.

featured project
CHP and The Home Depot employees joined with KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit that helps create playspaces through community participation, to construct a new playground at the Lynnhaven Landing apartments, an affordable housing community in Virginia Beach.
During the Build Day, more than 200 volunteers hustled virtually non-stop for 6 hours to the energizing music provided on site by a local radio personality, creating a colorful and exciting new playground for the over 150 children that live in the neighborhood.

redefining affordable housing
through resident services and education
Meeting client needs and investing in the future success of our residents has always been the core of CHP’s mission. In 1997, CHP opened one of the first certified HUD Neighborhood Network Centers in the United States. Since that time
we have added community centers and after school programs in multiple rental communities to support our effort to strengthen families and build sustainable communities.
environmental sustainability
Many resident services' programs incorporate sustainable practices into their youth and adult education courses, emphasizing ways to clean-up our environment, recyle, and reuse materials. Some communities have created neighborhood gardens planted with native vegetation and tended with natural fertilizers; while others have implemented recycling programs; hosted regular trash pick-up days; and offered classes on making environmentally-responsible choices at home, school, and work.
economic sustainability
To promote resident self-sufficiency, we partner with faith-based groups, community organizations, businesses and universities to deliver training and mentoring to enhance life and job readiness skills and to promote financial, academic, and computer literacy.
social sustainability
Through frequent and ongoing activities such as community festivals, celebrations, educational programming, and other property-based events, Resident Services maintains a focus on promoting social interaction, cultural enrichment, and community building.
